Book Review: Caged

I know I’ve sort of fallen off the grid blog wise and I want to make ammends with a book review 🙂

As Forbidden hit the Amazon lists I picked a book that was in the top 10 rankings and decided I wanted to get to know the author.  I choose Amber Natusch, author of Caged and boy am I glad I did.  Amber and I have become really great friends over the past couple of months.

The sad thing is…I have had the best intentions of reading her book but my own hectic schedule has prevented me from getting around to it.  This past week I decided to remedy that.

CAGED, Book 1 of the Caged Series

Outline:

“I stood in the middle of the room, unmoving – I barely breathed. My life had just become surreal, impossible, and one enormous lie. I needed to go, to run somewhere, anywhere to beat back the reality that was rapidly closing in around me. The image of him was burned into my retina, flashing over and over again like a warning. He was trapped somewhere between human and decidedly not, and I realized that was my new reality.
I was too.”

After the death of her parents, Ruby awakens from a lifetime of shadows and finds herself alone, thrust into a world of lies, deceit, betrayal and the supernatural.
As her quest for truth continues to come up short, she realizes that maybe some questions really are best left unanswered.
When her true identity is finally unveiled, she is forced to choose between two of the mysterious men who continually seem to crop up in her life.
She chooses poorly.
Now abandoned, Ruby must learn to call on the darkness within to survive, or spend a hellish eternity imprisoned because of it.

My thoughts:

Caged is an adult paranormal novel filled with intense characters, some who are deliciously dark and mysterious.  I have to admit that I have a character crush on one of the guys 🙂

Ruby is one of those characters that you want to throttle and hug all in the same go.  She has suffered through a lot in her youngish years and as such it has made her a bit rough around the edges…but that is an appealing quality in my opinion.  She is far from cookie cutter.

Caged is different than any other novel of this genre and I found it to be a refreshing change.  I am already 68% through the sequel and am planning on flowing straight into the third book.  The forth installment is due out within the next day or so, so if you have read the books make sure you grab a copy.  If not, this is a great time to start this series.
