Wanted: One Inspired Muse

I imagine this is exactly how I looked.

Do you ever have those days where nothing goes right?  You try, and you try, and no matter how much effort you exert, nothing goes as planned.

Today was one of those days for me.  As my first day of summer scheduling, I was pleased to note that my son took to his hour long “rest” time rather well.  Especially considering he still had to wait 2 whole hours before it was pool time.  So there I was, snuggled up on my couch with time to write…and nothing.  Squat.  Zilch.  Nada.

I was literally spewing word vomit (lovely imagery, huh?)

Two hours…wasted.

So how did I decide to cope with my wayward muse?  I went to see a movie.  Battleship to be exact.  (A half decent movie to pass a couple hours alongside my hubby.)

Now I am home again and am ready for round 2.  Let’s hope that this time my muse will behave!

  1. You’re supposed to keep spewing out that vomit. Just think of your writing as a pipe that pumps out this clear, beautiful water. At times, for one reason or another, it’s bound to get clogged. The only way to get that clear water running again is to pump a lot of liquid through it. This is going to make a mess, but soon your thoughts will come out clear again.

Plus, don’t forget you can always fix your mistakes during the editing process. A draft is meant to be messy, strange and confusing. A good round of editing will help you make sense of it.

    1. Thanks for the comment Joe. I tend to have trouble with not editing as I go along. I’m kind of crazy like that. To me, a day of word vomit is a nightmare. It doesn’t happen too often for me and when it does I’m thrown for a while. I did manage to get in some good writing late last night when I changed gears and POV.
      Thanks!
