Memorial Day isn’t about hitting the pool for the first time all year, filling the air with the alluring scent of char grilled meats or boating at the lake. As a Navy brat, I have a great appreciation of the sacrifices our men and women in the military make.
My father was gone much of my childhood, training others to serve. Children have to make do with only one parent. Spouses keep a household running in the absence of their partner. Soldiers, hundreds if not thousands miles from home, serve bravely each day to protect our freedom.
Memorial Day isn’t any more special than the other days of the year. Every day, around the world, soldiers are wounded or killed just for YOU. This is something we shouldn’t have to be reminded of. Every day we should thank our soldiers.
Even when the words might not be spoken, your sacrifices are greatly appreciated.
To our men and women at arms (or served faithfully in years past) I want to personally say THANK YOU!
Great thoughts! Although it was hard, I always feel great pride when I think about all that my Dad does. Thanks for sharing!
So many times, people forget about the sacrifices made by the families. Children go months without seeing their parent. That’s rough on a kid. We need to thank them just as much as the brave soldiers that fight for our freedom each and every day!
