Fifty Shades of Grey Debate

As a writer, and considering my personality in general, I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to the world outside my home and books on most days.  This being said, I have heard of the FIFTY SHADES OF GREY books.   The first time from my husband who, after receiving our Entertainment Weekly magazine, promptly asked me if I would read it.   This request is nothing new.  He always tells me to read books that he finds intriguing and wants me to give him a brief oral report when I’m finished.  I’m such a sucker!

But as I’m waist deep in my sequel, RECKONING,  I have not made the effort to find this book.

The second time I heard this book mentioned was just last night at the pool.  Another mom asked me if I had read it and what my opinion of it was from a writers standpoint.  My initial thought was that this book must be poorly written for her to ask that question.  But once she started explaining to me the plotline, I become increasingly intrigued.  Not in the plot itself, but in the reaction a book of this sort would have on mainstream readers.

I have read conflicting reports on Facebook, some rather heated I might add.  My question, which I pose to you, is will you choose to read this book?  If so, why.  If not, why?

Obviously, with this particular type of book, I imagine people will have strong views about it.  I know what I hold to be personally right for me, but I am interested to hear what others think.

For comments that follow: please show respect for everyone’s opinions.

  1. you know, I WAS planning on reading it (for reasons which I think you know) but then I heard some of it read aloud and I was like, what? That is terrible writing…but who knows, maybe one day…I certainly won’t pay the current asking kindle price for it.
